Q. How and when do I get started?

Q. How many sessions a year do you offer?
A. In order to align with the demanding schedules of today’s professionals, the MSHCE program offers 3 sessions per year, typically beginning January 1st, May 1st and September 1st. Request Information or contact an Admissions Advisor at (866) 717-6365 for the next session date.

Q. What are the admission requirements for the program?
Applicants for admission to the Master of Science (M.S.) program in Health Care Ethics must have a baccalaureate or higher degree. Applicants who do not hold a post-baccalaureate degree must have an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 in the last 60 hours of undergraduate study. Those who do not meet the minimum undergraduate GPA may request to take up to two courses in the Creighton University M.S. in Health Care Ethics program as a non-degree-seeking “Special Student.” If they receive a “B” or higher in those two courses, prospective students can apply, and the minimum GPA requirement will be waived.

Q. Can the GRE Requirements be waived?
Yes: Applicants to the Online MSHCE program can request a GRE waiver under the following conditions:
• Applicants already possess an advanced degree.
OR
• Applicants show evidence of success in graduate-level course work through successful completion of at least two graduate-level courses.

While the GRE is generally the preferred exam for admission to the program, scores from other post-baccalaureate entrance exams will be accepted, including the MCAT, GMAT, LSAT and MAT.

NOTE: All applicants who do not hold a post-baccalaureate degree must submit an official score report on the Graduate Record Examination or show evidence of success in graduate-level course work through successful completion of at least two graduate-level courses.



Q. What is the admission process?
Applicants must submit the following documents before a candidate review can begin:

  1. Application and application fee
  2. Curriculum Vitae including relevant education and any employment history
  3. Essay: Using 500 words or less per question, please respond to the following:
    1. List three “big” questions in contemporary Health Care ethics then choose one of the questions to answer or write a commentary on why you think this particular issue is so important.
    2. Explain how successful completion of this program will assist you in achieving your professional goals.
  4. Recommendation Forms: Three recommendation forms are required. The recommendations should be completed and submitted by persons other than family members who are capable of assessing an applicant’s performance in an academic or work setting.
  5. Transcripts: Official transcripts must be submitted from all colleges and universities attended. Transcripts must be sent directly from the issuing institution.
  6. Graduate Record Examination (GRE):
  7. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): All international applicants from countries in which English is not the primary language must demonstrate proficiency in the English language by submitting a minimum TOEFL score of 80 iBT (213 CBT/550 PBT). International applicants who received their baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited institution in the U.S., United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, or Africa (English-speaking only) are not required to submit a TOEFL score report.

Q. How many total credits are required?
A. The Online MSHCE program consists of 30 credit hours (10 courses). All students complete the 27 hours of Core Courses and select 3 hours of Elective.  For answers to your questions regarding your specific requirements, contact an Admissions Advisor at (866) 717-6365.

Q. How many courses do I take per academic term?
A. Most adult students, who work full-time, take one online course per eight-week session. The Online MSHCE program offers six academic sessions per year, which means that most students take six courses per year.

Q. How long will it take me to complete the program?
A. If you take one online course per eight-week session, you will complete the program in under two years.

Q. Is advising available for all students?
A. Yes. Each student receives a customized Curriculum Planner for the online MSHCE program and can set up a telephone appointment to speak with an advisor whenever assistance is needed.
